Former Espérance ST attacking midfielder Saad Bguir returned to African club football after Libyan Premier League club Al Nasr confirmed the Tunisian will join the Benghazi side.
The 31-year-old returns to North Africa after six seasons in the Saudi Pro League, where he mainly played with Abha Club and most recently spent a season with Al Wehda. Following Al Wehda’s relegation at the conclusion of the 2024-25 season, Bguir left the club to pursue other options and the set piece specialist is expected to play a key role for his new team.
Bguir rose to prominence with Tunisian giants Espérance during the club’s most recent dominant spell in African club football. He was a key player for the Blood and Gold as they captured consecutive CAF Champions League titles in 2018 and 2019, also winning three consecutive Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle titles between 2016 and 2019 along with one Tunisian Cup trophy and a Tunisian Super Cup trophy.

The veteran maestro is also a Tunisian international, representing the Eagles of Carthage in Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying as well as at the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and 2021 FIFA Arab Cup where Tunisia finished runner-up. He has 20 appearances and 5 goals for his nation with his last appearance as a substitute in the Arab Cup final as Tunisia lost 0-2 to Algeria after extra time.
The player who began his career with Stade Gabesien was recognized for his heroics with EST after Abha Club acquired Bguir ahead of the 2019-20 season. Bguir produced 41 goals and 26 assists in 160 Saudi Pro League appearances but ended his spell in the Gulf nation with consecutive relegations during his final season with Abha as well as his lone season with Al Wehda. He won the Player of the Month award twice in the Saudi top flight with Abha Club.
