Super Eagles boost: Alebiosu returns for AFCON quarter-final clash

Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON campaign has received a timely defensive lift as Ryan Alebiosu returned to full training ahead of Saturday’s high-stakes quarter-final against Algeria’s Desert Foxes.

The Blackburn Rovers defender has been sidelined since a frightening incident in Nigeria’s final group fixture against Uganda. Alebiosu was forced off after being shoved into the pitchside advertising boards by Ugandan defender Aziz Kayondo.

While there were initial fears that his tournament was over, the 24-year-old’s recovery has exceeded expectations.

AFCON: Ryan Alebiosu Returns From Injury

After sitting out the Round of 16 victory over Mozambique, Alebiosu rejoined the squad on the grass this Thursday following the team’s arrival in Marrakech.

His availability provides head coach Jose Peseiro with a crucial selection boost as the Super Eagles prepare for a tactical battle against the Algerians at the Grand Stade de Marrakech. With a spot in the semi-finals on the line, having the dynamic wing-back fit and ready could be the edge Nigeria needs to overcome the 2019 champions.

The game will be played on Saturday, and the kickoff is set for 18:00 (CAT).
