Alexandre Lafitte, head coach of newly crowned Ivorian Ligue 1 champions Stade d’Abidjan, has opened up about seeking a new challenge. The French coach hinted at a possible exit from the club after his two-year stint.
Lafitte, 28, ended the Abidjan club’s 56-year wait for a title, helping them clinch the championship after decades of anticipation. Nonetheless, Lafitte now eyes another top challenge as his future with the Ivorian side becomes uncertain.
Sport Ivoire reports that the out-of-contract manager could be on his way out. “Today, my contract has ended. But these two and a half years have allowed me to experience a lot. I managed to stay on the same bench for so long. I could stay another year, but the idea is to find a new, great project—with an even bigger club on the continent or a return to Europe.”
The coach also wants to work on his professional coaching license as he pursues a top job in his future endeavors. Under Lafitte, Stade d’Abidjan scored 47 goals in the league but Lafitte was unable to assume his coaching duties in the CAF Champions League due to the lack of the proper coaching license. He is expected to engage with the Stade d’Abidjan officials regarding contract renewal in the coming days.
