Algeria: JSK, CRB and MC Alger maintain winning form

Algeria’s top clubs continued to move towards the top of the Ligue 1 Professionnelle table with reigning champions MC Alger maintaing their status as leaders while JS Kabylie (JSK) and CR Belouizdad (CRB) also won over the weekend.

JSK stormed to a dominant 4-1 victory over MC El Bayadh on Monday. Babacar Sarr finished from close range to open the scoring in the 30th minute on a cross from Aymen Mahious, who was also among the scorers in Tizi Ouzou.

After failing to win in their opening three league matches, Josef Zinnbauer’s team are now unbeaten in their last nine matches and move up to 5th place on the Ligue 1 table with games in hand on three of the four teams above them.

It is a similar story for CR Belouizdad and USM Alger, who are two points back of JSK after both teams won. Also in CAF club competition and making up games in hand, USMA held on for a 1-0 victory while CRB overcame ES Mostaganem for a 2-0 win away from home on Sunday.

And reigning champions MC Alger continued to do just enough to get the result they needed with another 1-0 victory, this time over closest challengers JS Saoura.

Aimen Bougherra’s hopeful long range effort took a bounce right in front of Zakaria Seggari and snuck past the JSS goalkeeper for the only goal of the match in the 66th minute.

While the goals are not flowing for Rulani Mokwena’s players, the results are satisfactory and MCA have only dropped points in one of their seven league matches. They now lead closest competitors MC Oran and Olympique Akbou by two points with three less matches played.
