Algeria: JSK striker Mahious vanquishes former team CR Belouizdad

On Friday, JS Kabylie leaped up five places on the Algeria Ligue 1 Professionnelle table with Aymen Mahious’ second half strike in a 1-0 victory over CR Belouizdad.

The powerful striker refused to celebrate against the team he represented last season but his 71st minute goal provided a massive confidence boost for JSK. After two consecutive draws, the Canaries are now only a point back of second place CR Belouizdad following the result.

However, the team to beat in Algeria’s top flight remains MC Alger, who will be pleased at seeing their closest contenders battle each other even after being held to a 0-0 draw by hosts ASO Chlef earlier on Friday. Defending champions MCA are now twelve points clear of Algiers rivals CRB as well as USM Alger.

The 2025-26 season has now officially reached its halfway point. Elsewhere on Friday, CS Constantine defeated visitors JS Saoura 1-0 while MB Rouissat won 2-0 over USM Khenchela.
