A slow beginning to the 2024-25 Algeria Ligue 1 Professionnelle season and a home defeat to Orlando Pirates in their opening group stage match in the CAF Champions League shows that the current CR Belouizdad team are a work in progress. However it appears that recently hired veteran coach Abdelkader Amrani is putting the pieces together after CRB earned a second consecutive league victory on Sunday.

CRB defeated ASO Chlef 2-0 and supporters will be pleased to see two new acquisitions behind the goals. Aymen Mahious converted a penalty kick in first half stoppage time and big money signing Khanyisa Mayo scored his first league goal in the second half after tallying against Orlando Pirates in the Champions League match. CRB remain five points behind leaders CS Constantine who play on Monday.

The other notable match over the weekend involved hosts ES Sétif and defending champions MC Alger who played to a scoreless draw. After a positive beginning to the campaign, MCA are struggling with only two goals scored in their last six matches.
