Algeria Ligue 1: JSK move to the summit!

After appearing to be in danger of being relegated last season, the revival of JS Kabylie is on! The club from Tizi Ouzou are unbeaten in their last eight matches and Saturday saw the Canaries secure first place for the time being.

JSK edged newly promoted club Mostaganem with a 2-1 victory at the Stade Hocine-Aït-Ahmed. 34-year-old veteran playmaker Ryad Boudebouz, who represented Algeria at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, opened the scoring for JSK in his third consecutive league match with a goal. Kouceila Boualia scored the second goal for JSK before the hosts held off a late charge from Mostaganem.

MC Alger, participants in the ongoing CAF Champions League, are moving on from departed coach Patrice Beaumelle but it is the same story for the reigning champions. MCA could only manage a 0-0 draw at home Friday against ASO Chlef on a day that featured four red cards and zero goals from two matches.

Previous Ligue 1 leaders CS Constantine were also held in a 0-0 draw with NC Magra while ES Sétif scored late to secure a 1-1 result against visiting USM Alger, who are currently thriving in the CAF Confederation Cup along with CSC.
