Algeria Ligue 1: Visitors MC Oran leave it late in draw at USMA

USM Alger (USMA) failed to reclaim second place in Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle after conceding late to draw visitors MC Oran 1-1 on Thursday evening in Algiers.

Yacine Aliane’s header deep into second half stoppage time spoiled the mood at the Stade du 5 Juillet, where USMA were forced to settle for their third draw in four matches. The result confirms that CR Belouizdad will be second place at the halfway point of the 2025-26 campaign.

It appeared that the hosts would secure a routine victory. A dominant first half failed to provide any goals, but USMA took a deserved lead just over five minutes into the second half when Adem Alilet’s header from a corner kick crashed in off the crossbar.

But the visitors replied late on with a set piece goal of their own to leave USMA eleven points back of rivals and league leaders MC Alger.

Elsewhere on Thursday, ES Setif and Paradou AC played to a 2-2 draw while the result was the same between ES Ben Aknoun and Olympique Akbou. The only winners of the day was last placed MC El Bayadh, who earned their first victory of the season with a 1-0 result over fellow relegation battlers ES Mostaganem.

Action from Algeria’s top flight continues tomorrow with four more matches to complete the final round of matches from the first half of the campaign.
