Algeria Ligue 1: USM Alger dominate Khenchela

The only match played on Wednesday in Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle ended with a dominant victory for USM Alger who defeated USM Khenchela by a 3-0 score at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki.

Finding goals has been a struggle this season for USMA but fortunately they received a little help in the first half when Houssem Ghacha was taken down inside the penalty area. CAF Confederation Cup leading scorer Ismail Belkacemi placed his penalty kick perfectly to open the scoring in the 34th minute.

Khenchela kept the match close through halftime and early in the second half but Ghacha put the match away for USMA in a Man of the Match performance. The acquisition from Espérance ST fired in an easy finish from close range in the 71st minute and then benefitted from a stroke of good fortune when a clearance attempt ricocheted off him and into the Khenchela goal in the 79th minute.

USMA missed out on opportunities for maximum points in their previous two matches but are now three points back of rivals MC Alger who sit atop the table.
