Reigning Algerian club champions MC Alger are showing no signs of slowing down in their pursuit of a third consecutive Ligue 1 Mobilis title. A 1-0 victory over rivals USM Alger stretched MCA’s lead to twelve points on Wednesday.
Zineddine Ferhat’s clever finish in the 14th minute was the difference in a hard-fought match that featured few opportunities. After a brief period of stuggle during the final days of coach Rulani Mokwena before the South African’s departure, experienced coach Khaled Ben Yahia remains perfect since taking charge.
Visitors USMA, who have now lost back-to-back league matches, came close to equalizing around the hour mark but MCA goalkeeper Abdelatif Ramdane came up with an important diving save to preserve his clean sheet.

Also on Wednesday, CR Belouizdad and JS Kabylie emerged victorious. CRB dominated relegation battlers Paradou AC in a 3-0 victory away from home and JSK got off to an excellent start in a 3-1 result over ES Ben Aknoun.
All teams in the league will resume action over the weekend beginning on Friday. Next up for MCA is a test away from home against second place club JS Saoura, which presents another opportunity for the champions to swat away another challenger.
