MC Alger and JS Kabylie cancel each other out in Algerian Classico

Reigning Algerian club champions MC Alger were more threatening in the latest edition of the Algerian Classico but JS Kabylie managed to hold their hosts to a 0-0 draw on Thursday.

In the end, it is not a bad result for MCA, who are well in control at the top of the Ligue 1 Professionnelle table. Rulani Mokwena’s side remain a point ahead of CS Constantine but have four matches in hand on CSC, who also were held to a 0-0 draw by CR Belouizdad in Thursday’s other match.

Chances were few and far between in the highly anticipated clash between MCA and JSK. Chahreddine Boukholda fired wide from a cross close to the half hour mark for the hosts before Kabylie striker Aymen Mahious had an apparent goal disallowed due to offsides shortly after.

The first half was even with the two teams exchanging opportunities, but MC Alger took full control of the match after halftime with their emphasis on winning the possession battle. However, the strategy did not result in a goal for the champions who continue to struggle with their attack this month.

The title remains MC Alger’s to lose. They still have matches to make up on most of the competition while the usual contenders are experiencing difficult campaigns. CR Belouizdad and JSK are over ten points behind as well as USM Alger.
