Algerian League: sad news leads to postponement of Algiers derby

The Algerian Professional Football League has officially announced the postponement of several fixtures, including the derby between MC Alger and USM Alger, known as Algiers Derby, which was originally scheduled for Monday, March 30, 2026 in round 17 of the Algerian League.

The decision comes in light of the passing of former Algerian President Liamine Zeroual, who died at Ain Naadja Military Hospital, prompting a nationwide period of mourning.

In addition to the capital derby, two other fixtures have also been postponed:

• Paradou AC vs CR Belouizdad
• JS Kabylie vs NC Magra

The league confirmed in an official statement that the delayed matches from Round 17 will now be played on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, following the announcement of national mourning.

The new schedule is as follows:

• Paradou AC vs CR Belouizdad — 2:00 PM (GMT)
• MC Alger vs USM Alger — 3:00 PM (GMT)
• JS Kabylie vs Ben Aknoun — 3:00 PM (GMT)

The league’s decision reflects respect for the national mourning period, while ensuring the continuity of the domestic competition calendar in an adjusted format.
