Ali Maaloul awaits medical tests after injury with CS Sfaxien

Tunisian legendary left-back Ali Maaloul is set to undergo medical examinations to determine the extent of an injury he picked up during CS Sfaxien’s latest Tunisia Ligue 1 Professionnelle fixture.

Ali Maaloul featured in the first half of recent clash against CA Bizertin, which ended in a 1-1 draw, before being forced off due to the knock. CS Sfaxien later confirmed that the player will undergo the necessary medical tests before announcing the exact nature of the injury.

The club also announced the current health status of the injured players as follows:

  • Ammar Tayfur: suffering from a hamstring strain, which requires a four-week rest period.

  • Nour Gharoui: sustained an ankle sprain and will need 15 days of rest.

The club wished a speedy recovery to all the players.

The match itself was a dramatic affair. Farouk Bougatfa opened the scoring for Bizertin in the 40th minute, but his night quickly turned sour after receiving a second yellow card deep into first-half stoppage time, leaving his team with ten men. Despite their numerical advantage, Sfaxien had to wait until the dying moments to salvage a point, with Willy Onana equalizing in the 92nd minute.

The result earned CS Sfaxien their first point of the new Tunisian league campaign, following a 2-1 defeat to ES Zarjis in the opening round.

For Ali Maaloul, who returned to Tunisian football this summer after a trophy-laden spell with Egypt’s Al Ahly, the medical results will now determine how long he will be sidelined and whether CS Sfaxien can count on his experience in the coming rounds.
