Amad vouched for Manchester United’s top award

With Manchester United fans voting for the 2025 Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season, the Premier League club’s media team members have put a compelling case for Ivorian Amad Diallo to win the accolade.

United’s digital managing editor Adam Marshall, and senior staff writer, Joe Ganley, said that while skipper Bruno Fernandes is the favourite to win the award for the fourth time, Amad deserves recognition.

“I nominate Amad with a fair dose of the contrarian spirit. Because we all know, barring something unforeseen in the season’s final weeks, that Bruno will win his fourth Player of the Year award,” he said.

“But Amad deserves a nod: in the first half of this season, he carried our attack, like Fernandes has in recent months. The little playmaker has taken giant steps forward: from unused substitute in last year’s FA Cup final, to a vital force in the starting XI.”

Marshall echoed similar sentiments in vouching for the Ivorian. The other four media team members chose Fernandes.

“While Amad had a superb first half of the season before his injury, it is impossible to overlook Bruno Fernandes’s contribution once again. He has got better and better as the campaign has worn on, and nobody can underestimate his influence, on and off the pitch. For me, he’s the perfect captain and a world-class footballer,” he told United’s website.

However, features editor Steve Bartram, MUTV presenter Zarah Connolly, Mikey Partington (ManUtd.com journalist), and Harry Robinson (Multimedia journalist) believe it is a foregone conclusion that Fernandes would win the crown.

The Ivorian winger has just returned to United’s playing squad after recovering from an injury. He suffered while training in February 2025. The 22-year-old is now on course to help the Red Devils lift their first silverware this season after beating Athletic Club last week to reach the UEFA Europa League final.

United will face Tottenham Hotspur in the final on May 21, 2025. Meanwhile, Ruben Amorin's charges have the most immediate assignment against Chelsea FC on Friday, May 16, 2025.
