The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has challenged the Nigeria U-20 national team to leave it all on the pitch in their quarterfinal encounter against Senegal at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday.

Releasing a statement on Sunday, Hon. Amadu called the fixture a "golden opportunity" for the team as a victory qualifies them for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

The statement further explained that by reaching the semifinals of the ongoing tournament, the team would automatically secure one of Africa's four spots in the global competition.

“The match against Senegal is more than a quarter-final; it is a chance to fly the Nigerian flag on the world stage once again. I urge the players to rise to the occasion and make the nation proud,”

Flying Eagles soared to the knockout stage with an undefeated record in Group B, edging Tunisia 1-0 before battling Morocco to a goalless draw and then also drawing 2-2 with Kenya.

Their next challenge pits them against defending U-20 AFCON champions Senegal, who are renowned for their physical prowess and tactical discipline, promising an electrifying West African derby.

However, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, a staunch advocate for youth sports development, commended the team's achievements and the dedication of the players and coaching staff, also reiterated the National Assembly's unwavering support.

“Nigerians are fully behind you. We believe in your talent, resilience, and determination. Qualifying for the World Cup will not only be a reward for your hard work but a unifying moment for the country."

The seven-time U-20 AFCON champions will take on Senegal on Monday with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. WAT. A victory for the Flying Eagles would see Nigeria book a place in the semifinals of the continental tournament and confirm their ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals in Chile later this year.

The Flying Eagles are the most successful team at the U-20 AFCON with seven titles.
