AmaZulu co-head coach Arthur Zwane has defended under fire club goalkeeper Richard Ofori after his two costly mistakes against Kaizer Chiefs denied them all three points.

Kaizer Chiefs had had their noses in front courtesy an own goal by AmaZulu defender, Ramahlwe Mphahlele on the 18th minutes.

The visitors however got their grooves back with a quick reply five minutes after they went down when South African winger, Tshepang Moremi leveled at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

The visitors left no stone unturned when they shot ahead with Namibia international, Wazza Elmo Kambindu scoring on the 60th minutes.

However, the Ghana shot-stopper fumbled a cross, dropping the second Chiefs goal himself into his own net on the 63rd minute, putting the entire game 2-2 after full time.

However, after the entertaining 2-2 draw, Zwane defended his goalkeeper, insisting he kept his side in the game in the first half. “Unfortunately football is a game of mistakes,” he said on SuperSport TV.

“[But] as I said earlier on, he kept us in the game [first half]. Sometimes when the pressure mounts, you are bound to crack. He made those two crucial mistakes, both of them we know on any given he’d save them, make them look easy.

“Now is our job as coaches to try and help him psychologically because we need him. He’s been doing fantastically well for the team,” Zwane added.

AmaZulu sit seventh on the league table with 20 points with Kaizer Chiefs in fifth on 22 points from 16 league matches played this season.
