Head coach of AmaZulu FC Arthur Zwane has talked about his contract extension at the club after a respectable campaign in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.

Zwane’s romance with AmaZulu started in October last year when he partnered Vusumuzi Vilakazi to replace the departed Pablo Franco Martin. In February this year, Vilakazi stepped aside citing personal reasons resulting in Zwane’s rise to become the head coach.

AmaZulu’s performance has swept club chairman Sandile Zungu off his feet and he declared two weeks ago that the former Kaizer Chiefs coach would continue to lead the club in the upcoming season.

Reacting to the club’s decision, Zwane said, “We started this journey together with coach Kanu [Vusumuzi Vilakazi]. We had a long-term plan but it was always going to be about the results.”

“We obviously thank the president for giving us the opportunity to help stay longer and showcase our talents as coaches. I think AmaZulu is one of the teams that have given mostly so-called inexperienced coaches the opportunity."

“It has worked wonders, and also, there have been challenges here and there. I’d say we embrace the opportunity given by the president. The fact that it’s a project, it also gives us time to implement our ways of doing things and also grow at the same time, growing with the team together, not only us."

“We’ve been rewarded because the players showed consistency even though our performances were fluctuating,” Zwane added. "But we showed a lot of hunger and commitment. And yeah, we’ve been rewarded by being in the top eight. It’s all up to us now to take it to the next level.”

AmaZulu are currently sixth in the standings with 34 points after 27 matches and have earned a place in the MTN 8 cup competition at the beginning of next season.
