AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has urged his team to keep alive their hopes of a top eight finish in the Betway Premiership with a win when they come up Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammarsdale on Saturday.
Having lost their last league assignment 1-0 against Stellenbosch, Zwane has demanded for immediate response from his player during KZN derby. AmaZulu are currently sitting ninth on the 16-team league table with 30 points from 25 matches.
They are level on points with eighth placed Kaizer Chiefs meaning a win will help them reach 33 points.
“These games don’t come easy, but for us, it’s more like a six-pointer,” said Zwane as quoted by FARPost. “We know the importance of getting the maximum points. I think I wouldn’t want to repeat myself in terms of where we are and where we’re supposed to be.
“We had ample time to actually consolidate or put ourselves in a better position by now on the log. But dropping points in three games in a row has put us under pressure. So, we put ourselves in this situation, like we did in the past. We want to take ourselves out.
“The only opportunity we have is to make sure that we go to Hammarsdale, regardless of whether the pitch will be playable or not, the important thing is we want to grind the results.”
On AmaZulu’s target this season, Zwane said: “The preparations are going well so far, the players, the spirit in the camp [is good], and everyone is looking forward to the game. We’ve got a few injuries here and there, but I don’t think they will make much of a negative impact.
“I think we have other players who have been waiting for the opportunity to be presented to them. So, I think they are equally good at grabbing the opportunity.
“We’re hoping we’ll get the maximum points, though it’s not going to be an easy one. We’ve played more games than anyone else, that’s why it’s key for us to get maximum points in the remaining games so that at least we secure a top eight spot.”
AmaZulu’s last win came on April 3 when they beat Richards Bay 1-0 at King Zwelithini Stadium.
