AmaZulu goalkeeper Richard Ofori targets Ghana return

Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori wants to focus on club form at AmaZulu to help court interest from senior team head coach, Otto Addo ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ofori was the Black Stars’ number one but he has not featured for the West African nation after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast where Ghana exited at the group stage.

With the four time African champions securing an automatic spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico, Ofori is nurturing the ambition of a potential return to the team.

Speaking to iDiski Times, the 31-year-old said he is determined to let his performances at club level speak for him.

Richard Ofori has not played for Ghana since 2024

“I’m working hard in my team to help my team in the league, and then the rest will take over,” Ofori said. “Recently, no, I haven’t spoken to coach Otto Addo, but before, he used to call me. He’s a good man who checks up on his players.”

“I’m focused on my club right now. That’s what you need to do if you want to be there [at the World Cup].”

Ofori has made 33 appearances for Ghana since his debut in 2015. The Black Stars defeated Comoros by 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium to top Group I with 25 points and secure a fifth World Cup slot.
