Olympique de Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has admitted uncertainty over the availability of Algerian international forward Amine Gouiri, who suffered a shoulder injury during his side’s emphatic 4-0 win against Lorient in Ligue 1.
Goals from Mason Greenwood, Benjamin Pavard, Angel Gomes, and Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd secured a dominant victory for Marseille in the fourth round of the league. But the night was marred by the injury to Gouiri, who was forced off in the 41st minute after landing awkwardly following a heavy challenge.
Speaking after the match, De Zerbi said: “Gouiri has a shoulder problem. We need to assess his condition and see if he will be ready for Tuesday’s match against Real Madrid.”
The injury scare casts serious doubt on Gouiri’s participation in Marseille’s Champions League opener, where they will face European giants Real Madrid. The 25-year-old forward has become a key figure in De Zerbi’s attacking setup, and his absence would be a significant blow as the club prepares for one of the toughest tests on the continent.
