Richardson, 23, joined Fiorentina in 2024 from Ligue 1 side Stade Reims. The Nice-born midfielder made only two Serie A appearances for the Florence-based outfit and a further two appearances in the UEFA Conference League. The out-of-favour player has made the decision to leave the club during the winter transfer window, as reported by Le Parisien.
The French publication stated that Danish side FC Copenhagen are in talks to sign Richardson from Fiorentina. The player is keen on the move to gain playing time and force his way back into the Morocco national side. Stade Brest and OGC Nice are also interested in acquiring Richardson.
Richardson was left out of the Morocco national squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, Richardson hopes to secure a move elsewhere to fulfill his dream of representing the Atlas Lions on the biggest stage. Richardson has been a Morocco international since 2023. He won the U23 AFCON and an Olympic bronze medal with the junior side in 2023 and 2024.
Richardson joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2024 from Stade de Reims with the ambition of taking the next step in his development. However, his time in Serie A has so far been frustrating.
The Nice-born midfielder has managed just two appearances in Serie A and two more in the UEFA Conference League, failing to cement a regular role in Vincenzo Italiano’s rotation. Despite showing flashes of quality in European competition—including scoring his first goal for La Viola—Richardson has largely found himself on the fringes of the squad.
According to Le Parisien, the lack of game time has convinced the player and his entourage that a January departure is the best solution for all parties.
The French publication reports that FC Copenhagen are currently in advanced discussions with Fiorentina over a potential transfer. The Danish champions are keen to reinforce their midfield with a profile that combines physical presence, technical ability, and international experience.
A move to Copenhagen is appealing to Richardson, who believes regular minutes in a competitive but less congested league could allow him to rediscover rhythm and confidence. The prospect of European football with the Danish side also weighs heavily in his thinking.
In addition to Copenhagen, Richardson continues to attract attention in France. Stade Brestois 29 and OGC Nice are both monitoring his situation closely.
A return to Ligue 1 would offer familiarity and stability for the midfielder, who previously impressed at Reims with his athleticism, ball-carrying ability, and tactical intelligence. Nice, in particular, represents an emotional option given Richardson’s birthplace, while Brest view him as a potential upgrade in midfield depth.
Richardson’s club struggles have had direct consequences at international level. He was left out of Morocco’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, a painful setback for a player who had become part of the Atlas Lions’ long-term project.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, the midfielder is acutely aware that consistent playing time is non-negotiable if he hopes to reclaim his place.
Since making his senior debut for Morocco in 2023, Richardson has been regarded as one of the country’s most promising midfield prospects. At youth level, he enjoyed significant success, winning the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations and helping Morocco secure a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games—achievements that raised expectations around his senior career.
