Born in Nice, France to a Moroccan mother and the late American basketball player Micheal Ray Richardson, Amir made his professional breakthrough with Le Havre in France’s second tier Ligue 2. A transfer to Ligue 1 club Stade de Reims followed ahead of the 2023-24 season, where he helped the club finish finish 9th place before earning a transfer to Fiorentina.
He represented France at the U-20 level and played for his country of birth at the 2022 Toulon Tournament before electing to represent Morocco, playing for the nation’s U-23 national team at the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations before being a key player and earning a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Richardson played for the Morocco senior national team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as well as 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
After featuring regularly for Fiorentina during his first season at the club, Amir Richardson only made four appearances in all competitions during the first half of the ongoing 2025-26 season.

FC Copenhagen, who are participants in the ongoing UEFA Champions League, have struggled with their domestic form this season. They currently sit in 5th place on the Danish Superliga table, twelve points back of leaders AGF Aarhus.
The loan will be an opportunity for Richardson to earn regular playing time and keep himself in contention to represent Morocco at the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Due to lack of playing time, he fell out of the plans of Walid Regragui and was not called for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations where hosts Morocco finished as runners-up. The towering midfielder is known for his high work rate and tackling in the middle of the pitch.
FC Copenhagen are next in action in the Champions League against FC Barcelona next Wednesday. They do not return to domestic league action until their next Superliga fixture on February 8 against FC Midtjylland.
