Amorim reveals reason to sub Man United’s Amad Diallo in Liverpool win

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim came out to explain why he made the decision to withdraw Ivory Coast winger Amad Diallo in their 2-1 victory against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Diallo played a key role in the fixture after he set up his African counterpart from Cameroon Bryan Mbeumo with a precise through ball to open the scoring with only two minutes played.

However, the 23-year-old, who has made seven appearances for Man United so far this season but his yet to find the back of the net apart from the assist from Mbeumo was subbed off in the 59 minute for Patrick Dorgu, and looked disappointed with the outcome.

‘He was on a yellow card’

Revealing his decision while accepting Diallo was upset, Amorim told Man United official website: “Amad is doing so well in that position. He’s perfect for that position. He was upset today (Sunday) when I made a sub, but he was on a yellow card.”

The Man United coach added: “It was a lot of man to man on the side, so it was just about that. If not, he would continue with the game because he is so important for us. He has struggled for a few weeks [with his bereavement], but we are here for him and that’s the most important thing.”

Diallo’s contribution was enough to help the Red Devils achieve their first Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield since January 2016, when Louis van Gaal’s side triumphed 1-0.

The win also marked United’s first away league victory since defeating Leicester City in March, ending a run of eight consecutive away matches without a win. While for his assist, it helped Mbeumo to score his second for Man United since making the switch from Brentford last summer.
