The 37-year-old joins as a free agent signing to provide cover in the goalkeeping department for the Orange Boys. RSB regular starter Munir El Kajoui underwent surgery for a right shoulder injury suffered while training with the Morocco national team at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ruling him out for at least three months.

Another veteran goalkeeper, Mehdi Maftah, was between the sticks for RSB’s 0-0 draw against visitors Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League on Saturday. The former Wydad and Mouloudia Oujda player is a capable option but now has high level competition for minutes over the next few months.

Zniti arrives with an impeccable reputation. He has made well over 400 appearances in multiple competitions including Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro, the CAF Champions League, the CAF Confederation Cup, the CAF Super Cup as well as Morocco’s domestic cup competition, the Coupe du Trône (Throne Cup).

He won nine trophies with Raja, including two Botola Pro titles, two Coupe du Trônes and two CAF Confederation Cup titles. He was named the Botola Pro’s Best Goalkeeper six times and won the Player of the Season award with Raja following the 2020-21 campaign.

His spell at UAE Pro League club Al Wasl was not a success. During his six-month spell with the club, he only played two matches in the league phase of the 2024-25 AFC Champions League, conceding two goals to Cristiano Ronaldo in a 0-4 defeat to Saudi giants Al Nassr.

He also participated in a 0-2 defeat to Saudi Arabia’s other top club, Al Hilal, on February 18 last year before failing to make another appearance. Zniti was released when his contract with Al Wasl expired on July 1.

But a return to Morocco will see the veteran back in familiar territory with a good opportunity to earn more playing time in Munir’s absence. Known for his proficiency in saving penalty kicks as well as his leadership, Zniti is an excellent option for a team that wishes to excel in all domestic and continental competitions this season.

Zniti, a native of Fez in the north of Morocco, began his career with local club Maghreb Fez where he established his strong reputation while featuring for Morocco youth national teams.

He debuted for the Morocco ‘A’ national team composed of local-based players in a friendly against Niger in December 2012 before featuring for the full national team, the Atlas Lions, in a 0-0 friendly draw against Zambia in January 2013. Soon after, he was included in Morocco’s squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations where he served as a backup.

Zniti’s best moments in the colors of his country came at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) with Morocco ‘A’, where he was the starter as Morocco won the 2018 and 2020 editions of the CHAN. He was awarded the Best Goalkeeper award at the 2020 CHAN in Cameroon. Zniti also played three matches at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, featuring in the quarterfinals as Morocco lost to rivals Algeria in a penalty kick shootout following a 2-2 draw.
