Andre Onana in injury scare for Man United

Manchester United’s Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana has reportedly been withdrawn from the tour of America due to a serious injury.

Several news outlets, including Sky Sports, report that the first-choice keeper suffered a hamstring injury during pre-season training.

The reports further say Onana faces up to six weeks on the sidelines, dealing a blow to Ruben Amorim’s side ahead of the 2025-2026 Premier League kick-off.

The 29-year-old continues to be assessed and is reportedly responding well to treatment. United are yet to make an official statement on the injury.

Sky Sports understand that the Cameroonian will still travel with United to America. He might miss next season’s opener against Arsenal on August 17 2025. The former Inter Milan custodian made 38 appearances for United last season and kept nine clean sheets.

He is deputized by Altay Bayindir who is expected to man the posts when the Red Devils play Leeds United on July 19 in Sweden before proceeding to America for more friendlies against West Ham United, Bournemouth FC and Everton FC.

Amorim has shown faith in the former Ajax Amsterdam man, keeping him alongside other Africans, Ivorian wonderkid Amad and Moroccan Noussair.

The Red Devils released 11 players from the squad for the 2025 and 2026 Premier League season. Notable players who left were midfielder Christian Eriksen, defenders Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.

The departure list includes goalkeeper Tom Heaton, who is also included on the list of free transfers. Academy players Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan, and Tom Wooster complete the list of players being released this summer.
