Angola coach Patrice Beaumelle has cracked the whip on a former South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) star for alleged indiscipline.
The Palancas Negras are preparing to face Zambia on Tuesday in the FIFA window. This is the second warm up match for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)-bound Angolans following their high-profile meeting with Argentina.
The Palancas Negras lost 2-0 to the FIFA World Cup champions in Luanda on Friday. Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi were the scorers. In the opposite camp, the Copper Bullets’ too are smarting from a 3-1 loss to South Africa in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
The squad for the Angolans include key players such as Petro de Luanda striker Jó Paciência. The 28-year-old joined the Girabola champions in May from Bravos do Maquis on a two-year deal.
The powerful forward is some sort of a journey man as he previously played for Sagrada, GD InterClube in Angola. Paciência also had a stint with Cape Town City when they were campaigning in the top tier of the PSL in 2023, before being relegated.
Now, Paciência has hit headlines in Angola for bad reasons. He has been expelled from camp ahead of Tuesday’s match against Chipolopolo.
Angola Football Federation media has confirmed that Beaumelle has expelled the former Cape Town City man for indiscipline. His departure has since seen a reduction in the Angolan squad from 30 to 27 players.
This is the case as captain Fredy has also been excused for personal reasons while Beny Mukendi is injured. The Palancas Negras are fine-tuning for the AFCON finals having been drawn in the same group with Egypt, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
