Angola captain Fredy announces possible international retirement after draw with Egypt

Fredy, the captain of the Angola national team, announced his possible retirement from international football following the goalless draw against Egypt in the group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Angola concluded their group-stage campaign with a 0-0 draw against Egypt, finishing third in the group with two points after previously drawing against Zimbabwe in round 2.

In emotional scenes after the final whistle, Fredy appeared crying while speaking to journalists.

The Angolan captain said:
“It’s difficult for me to speak because it can be my last game for national team. I give everything I can to my country because 12 years I fight a lot for this country. It’s difficult. Sorry to say.”

Angola collected their second point of the group stage and will now await the outcome of the best third-place qualification calculations across all groups.
