Holders Petro de Luanda beat Académica do Lobito 3-0 on Sunday afternoon to go two points clear at the summit of Angola’s elite league, Girabola.

Lobito’s own goal in the ninth minute was followed by Vanilson and Bryan Róchez’s strikes from the penalty spot, after Toro was brought down, to seal the victory at the 11 de Novembro Stadium.

The back-to-back wins, including the 1-0 beating of Luanda City in a midweek game last Wednesday, saw the 17-time Girabola champions, Petro de Luanda, leapfrogging Primeiro de Agosto at the top of the 16-member log table.

Primeiro de Agosto now occupy second place after playing out to a goalless draw away with Bravos do Maquis on Sunday whereas third-placed Wiliete were 2-0 winners over Lunda Sul.

Further down the table, fourth-positioned Sao Salvador handed Grupo Desportivo Sagrada Esperance (Sagrada) FC, a 3-0 thrashing on Sunday.

The loss piled more pressure on the Confederations Cup participants who sacked their coach Rocky Sabiri last week after losing 5-1 to Pyramids FC in a group-stage match of the continental competition.
