Antoine Semenyo registered a goal during Manchester City’s 2-2 English Premier League draw at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
The Citizens brought their A-game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to start the Round 24 fixture, finding the back of the net twice in the space of 33 minutes.
The visitors broke the deadlock with France international Rayan Cherki, whose low strike beat Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario in the 11th minute. It was a dominant display after their opening goal as they looked to keep the chase on in pursuit of Arsenal, who walloped Leeds United 4-0 on Saturday.
Bernardo Silva found an opportunity from Spurs’ poor midfield play before gliding a pass to Semenyo, who planted the ball in the corner for City’s second with a minute to the first half break.

However, Thomas Frank’s charges recovered from the setback to pull back into the match with two goals from Dominik Solanke within 17 minutes.
The former Liverpool and Bournemouth forward made a brilliant turn around two defenders before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario in the 53rd minute. The England forward then equalised in stellar fashion with a scorpion kick following a cross from Connor Gallagher in the 53rd minute.
It was a disappointing result for Manchester City in domestic league play following their 0-2 derby defeat to Manchester United two weeks ago. They had previously defeated Wolves last weekend to show signs of recovery in their journey to catch up to league leaders Arsenal.
Semenyo said after the game:
“We’ve got more games, there are 14 games to go. We are six points behind, it’s not the end…we have to keep going. Anything can happen. 14 games to go, they might lose a couple of games and we might win.
The dynamic changes and we have to see what happens. Everyone is visibly frustrated and we go again. First-half we played really well. It was just keeping the ball and drawing them out. We did that really well and had a few chances on that.
The mentality was to do the same things again. Second half that didn’t happen and they dominated. Couldn’t tell you why if I’m honest. They started picking up momentum and had a couple of chances. Getting the crowd into it helped. The crowd were behind them and it definitely helps.”
Manchester City sit second on the Premier League table with 47 points, six behind the Gunners after 24 games.
Semenyo signed a five-and-a-half-year contract for £64m. A day later, he made his debut, scoring a goal and assisting another one in a 10–1 victory over Exeter City in the FA Cup.
He also scored on his second league start against Wolverhampton Wanderers last week and now has four goals and an assist from five matches in an excellent start to life at his new club.
