SuperSport United interim coach Andre Arendse has hinted at making changes to his squad in a last-ditch attempt to save the club from relegation in South Africa’s Betway Premiership.
The former Fulham FC goalkeeper suggested the changes ahead of the final league match against Richards Bay on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
“We have a bunch of guys who have struggled their way this season. We have tried to get the best from them. They are giving everything. They just don’t have the luck, but we have to keep going. We need to see if we can refresh the team a bit. There are plenty of heavy legs. Most of these guys have played consecutively in the past six games,” he said.
The Bafana Bafana goalkeeping great described the final match against the Durban-based opponents as a must-win in the relegation battle.
“I have a lot of confidence in this group of players. We have to do it the hard way, but I have full confidence that this group will see us across the line,” he said.
Arendse observed that some United players looked exhausted on Tuesday during the 1-0 loss to Orlando Pirates at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, hence the need to freshen up the squad.
“I can look for excuses, but I thought it was a solid performance, defensively solid. These are the moments we have to manage better. We have to keep going,” he said.
SuperSport are in 14th place, goal difference separating them from Cape Town City.
