Arne Slot reacts to Salah landmark: ‘That’s almost unbelievable’

Liverpool manager Arne Slot was left in awe of Egyptian international Mohamed Salah after he set another landmark in their 2-0 Premier League victory against Aston Villa at Anfield.

While the win enabled the Reds to end a four-game losing run in the competition, Salah came up with his 250th goal for the club to open the scoring in first-half stoppage time, before Ryan Gravenberch wrapped up the points.

The Egyptian took advantage of a loose pass out from Aston Villa custodian Emi Martinez to finish into an unguarded net. Speaking after the game, Slot termed Salah’s latest achievement as huge and unbelievable.

‘You don’t see this that much in football’

“That’s huge. That’s almost unbelievable if you score 250 goals for one club. If you score 250 goals, it’s already unbelievable – let alone for one club. You don’t see this that much in football anymore,” Slot said as quoted by Liverpool website.

“And I think apart from the goal he scored tonight, he had a very good performance. Because when we had to play long, we played mainly long towards him and he could hold the ball, so because of that the rest of the team could come to him and we could keep playing.”

He added: “And what I also liked was that he didn’t only do his offensive work really well, but he helped the team out defensively as well. I think after we scored the 1-0, he was helping Virgil [van Dijk], I think, somewhere around the halfway line.

“This combination of things led to the fact that I liked his performance tonight. And, of course, it’s special for him to score his 250th. For him to score is not even that special, because that’s what we also know he will always do.”

Salah has so far featured in nine Premier League matches, scored four goals and provided two assists. He has now scored in his last two appearances as third-placed Liverpool stayed seven points behind leaders Arsenal in the title race.
