Arokodare and Munetsi score in Wolves’ Carabao Cup victory

Marshall Munetsi opened the scoring and big-money signing Tolu Arokodare opened his account in English football as Wolves advanced in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

Arokodare’s chipped finish put the match away in the 88th minute after the Nigerian ran onto a pass from Joao Gomes before striking for his first Wolves goal since joining at the beginning of September.

In the first half it was Zimbabwe national team star Munetsi who got Wolves on the front foot. In the 29th minute, Jhon Arias’ strong volley was pushed away by Everton goalkeeper Mark Travers but the rebound fell to Munetsi who was left with an easy finish for his first goal of the 2025-26 season.

Wolves’ struggles

The victory will provide a brief respite for Wolves, who are enduring awful form in the English Premier League. The club have lost all five of their league matches this season, with the Carabao Cup providing the only moments of joy so far this season as they advanced to the Round of 16 with Tuesday’s victory. Wolves defeated West Ham United 3-2 in their opening round match.

A much needed boost for Munetsi and Arokodare

Munetsi has not been immune from Wolves’ struggles. A starter in the opening three Premier League matches, the Zimbabwean was not selected for the starting eleven in the last two league games but a strong performance on Tuesday will help his cause. Munetsi was awarded Man of the Match by Sofascore for his efforts against Everton.

Arokodare, who came on as a substitute to bag his first goal for the club, failed to score in his first two Premier League games after being inserted into the lineup following his arrival. However, a goal in the League Cup could be just what the doctor ordered for the towering Nigerian forward who arrived from KRC Genk for a €26 million fee before the summer transfer deadline.

A difficult test awaits Wolves on Saturday when they return to Premier League play at Tottenham.
