Arthur Zwane: ‘Who doesn’t want AmaZulu FC’s job?’

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has shared his thoughts on what it means for him to be in charge of the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side.

The former Kaizer Chiefs winger spoke to Usuthu’s website on his time with the KwaZulu-Natal-based club and what it means to him as a coach. The 52-year-old arrived at AmaZulu last year when he picked the job of a co-coach alongside Vusimuzi Vilakazi.

However, Vilakazi left his role in February this year with Zwane assuming the sole head coach post of the Betway Premiership outfit.

Last season, the former Chiefs coach steered the ship to safety as Usuthu settled for a decent sixth-place finish. This Betway Premiership campaign, Zwane has also started promisingly. They sit in ninth position with 12 points after posting three wins, three draws and two losses.

Zwane shares insights on how big are AmaZulu FC

While moving from Chiefs to AmaZulu might seem a downgrade, the former South African international has a contrary opinion. “Opportunities like these don’t come for everyone. Until people understand how big this club is, the better,” the 52-year-old said.

“Who doesn’t want to coach AmaZulu? “That is why it annoys me; it breaks me when someone doesn’t understand what AmaZulu is all about,” he added.

“The history of this club, the people who have invested, the Board, the president [Sandile Zungu] and many other people who are investing their emotions to see the team progressing and getting better.”

What makes coach Zwane mad about AmaZulu FC

Zwane then explained why he does not understand anyone who takes AmaZulu for granted.

“It makes me mad. Why am I saying mad? I’m mad because of the passion that I have when I see people take things for granted,” the coach added.

“It worries me. You can add a cherry on top of what has been achieved by this club. Why has this team been existing? Here in this part of the world, you have to understand why you are part of AmaZulu.”

AmaZulu can build on their sound start to the season when they welcome rookies Durban City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in a Betway Premiership derby on Saturday. Kick-off is at 15h30.

Gavin Hunt’s team, too, has exceeded expectations and currently lie in fourth place with 15 points, six points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
