AS FAR Rabat women to face Spanish opponents

CAF Women’s Champions League defending champions AS FAR Rabat will play a friendly against their Spanish counterparts Gimnàstic de Tarragona on Monday. Kick off is 6pm GMT.

The warm-up is part of commemorations for the International Women’s Day. Both clubs have confirmed that the match is scheduled for New Costa Daurada Stadium in Spain.

The Moroccan side has since described the strength-building match as being beyond the simple framework of sports as it coincides with the celebration of International Women’s Day.

“The importance of this match is not limited to its sporting aspect but extends to the promotion of women’s causes and the strengthening of the presence of women in the field of sport,” reads AS FAR Rabat statement.

“Such initiatives enshrine the role of football as a lever to promote equity and equality, while providing a space for women’s ambitions and skills to be valued. In addition, this event is an opportunity to strengthen cultural exchanges between peoples, with stadiums becoming platforms for communication and sharing of universal human values, in a context of growing interest in women’s football on a global scale.”

Gimnàstic de Tarragona confirmed the friendly game with the CAF Women’s Champions League holders, saying the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Morocco in Tarragona facilitated the game.

In a statement, the Spanish side describes the duel as a great opportunity to compete against a high-level opponent.

Kassid Formación is sponsoring the game to enhance women’s football visibility, recognising women’s talent in football and generating new opportunities.

Entry to the match is free of charge to encourage the participation of all fans.
