Asamoah Gyan accuses Victor Osimhen of ‘faking injury’ in World Cup qualifier

Former Ghanaian striker, Asamoah Gyan, has openly questioned the legitimacy of Nigerian senior men’s national team striker, Victor Osimhen’s recent injury, suggesting it was a calculated move to favor his new club, Galatasaray.

Gyan made the accusation after Osimhen was forced to leave the pitch in the first half of Nigeria’s crucial 1-0victory against Rwanda last Saturday. The injury, initially diagnosed as a bruise on his shin by the Super Eagles’ medical staff, was deemed serious enough to rule him out of the subsequent World Cup qualifier against South Africa.

However, Ghana’s all-time goal scorer, remains unconvinced by the diagnosis. In a recent interview, Gyan was quoted by habersarikirmizi stating that it’s a trick.

“I know these tricks. Someone said to Osimhen, ‘Look, we spent a lot of money on you. The Champions League is coming up. We don’t like you going to Africa, but go there and play a bit, then get injured and lie on the ground and act like it’s serious. The next day you’ll be in Türkiye.'”

The 26-year-old forward, who recently completed a record-breaking transfer to Turkish giants Galatasaray, immediately returned to Turkey for further medical assessment.

Galatasaray’s official statement later confirmed that Osimhen had sustained a moderate sprain to his ankle ligaments, and treatment had begun to get him back on the field as soon as possible.

As a result, the striker didn’t feature in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana on Tuesday.
