Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’neil is still reeling from the disappointment of their 1-1 draw at home to Aduana FC in the week 10 fixture of the Ghana Premier League last Sunday.
He has expressed his frustration, insisting the team must improve ahead of their next fixture.
Kotoko, the two-time CAF Champions League winners, were forced to fight back at the Baba Yara Stadium after going down to Emmanuel Marfo’s first-half tap-in. Lord Amoah eventually secured a point in the second half, maintaining the club’s eight-game unbeaten run (with two delayed fixtures remaining).
Despite avoiding defeat, the captain did not hide his disappointment over dropping points at home.
“We are playing at home, so we wanted to win, so the draw is not good for us,” Samba O’neil stated following the nervy result. “Definitely, we wanted to win, and that was why we were fighting, but the result didn’t come, and we are so down about the result.”
Samba O’neil attributed the side’s sluggish display, particularly their start, to fatigue issues within the squad.
“I think it’s some fatigue. In the first half, we started slowly because of fatigue, and at the end of the first half, our energy was coming back,” he admitted.
With the Porcupine Warriors set to honour their outstanding Week 6 fixture at home against a struggling Young Apostles side on Wednesday, November 19, the Congolese defender is demanding an immediate response.
“Every day we need to improve. In that game against Young Apostles, we need to win, so we need to improve to do that,” he stressed.
Asante Kotoko currently sits in 6th place on the league table with 16 points, trailing sworn rivals Hearts of Oak (who have played two more games) by just one point.
