Ghana FA slaps Asante Kotoko with hefty fine

Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have been slapped with a hefty fine by the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee following misconduct during their week 14 Premier League match against current leaders Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In the said fixture, Medeama shot ahead twice through Derick Fordjour’s 5th minute and Yussif Mubarik’s 19th penalty kick. Asante Kotoko however fought back to draw level from the boots of Peter Amidu Acquah and Samba O’neil.

According to the GFA, Kotoko were found guilty of failing to ensure the safety of match officials. The club was also cited for allowing supporters to threaten and attack officials, as well as permitting unauthorized persons access to restricted areas, including the tunnel.

Kotoko’s fine amounts to GHS 10,000 ($940 USD) and have been issued a warning by the Ghana Football Association’s Disciplinary Committee. The fine is to be paid within fourteen days of formal notification of the ruling.

Asante Kotoko ended the first half of the Ghana Premier League in third with 30 points after suffering a 2-1 loss at All Blacks. They are two points behind second placed GoldStars and four adrift of leaders Medeama SC.
