CAFCC: Former Asante Kotoko keeper Danlad Ibrahim backs club to reach group stage

Former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim has backed the club to reach the group stage of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors have been drawn against Nigeria outfit, Kwara United for the preliminary round of CAF’s second tier inter-club competition.

Danlad spent eight seasons at Kotoko with two spells at Berekum Chelsea and King Faisal before exiting to sign for Ethiopia Coffee in 2024 as a free agent.

The Sunyani born is one of the few Ghanaian goalkeepers to have passed through all the national teams, the U-17, U-20, U-23, senior B [Black Galaxies] and A team the Black Stars.

The 23-year-old has expressed the belief that, Asante Kotoko have signed the needed materials to help them reach the group phase of the competition.

“The only thing is I will wish them well and so far they have a very good set of players and you know Kotoko are good, they always buy the best, ” Danlad Ibrahim told Andydotcom TV.

“So I will not be surprised if Kotoko is able to reach the group stage of next season’s CAF Confederation Cup [and] the only thing we have to pray for is God’s favour on the club because I have the belief and confidence in these current guys.

“We have the goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and so for now the club needs luck so I will urge the club’s fans to rally around the club financially and pray for them and I know that if they do that, the club can go far.” Ibrahim Danlad added.

Impressive run for Asante Kotoko

Asante Kotoko go into the CAF Confederation Cup against Kwara United with an impressive 2024/25 campaign – winning the FA Cup, the President Cup over rivals Hearts of Oak and the Toyota Cup against South Africa club, Kaizer Chiefs under coack Karim Zito who replaced Prosper Narteh-Ogum.

The Porcupine Warriors will first host the Ilorin based club in the first leg between the weekend of September 19 and 21, before travelling for the return fixture from September 26 to 28.

The winner between Asante Kotoko and Kwara United will progress to play Morocco giants, Wydad Athletic Club in the second preliminary round.
