GHALCA Top 4: “Asante Kotoko’s poor performance is a wake up call” – Prince Owusu

Asante Kotoko deputy coach Prince Owusu has admitted that their poor performance in the 2025 GHALCA Top Four competition is a “wake-up call” to the technical team.

The Porcupine Warriors finished the competition with no points after three matches at the Legon Sports Stadium with losses against Gold Stars, Heart of Lions and rivals Hearts of Oak.

The poor run in the competition was a deviation from last season’s splendid output where they lifted their tenth FA Cup, the President’s Cup and Toyota Cup.

Prince Owusu said: “I think it’s rather unfortunate, we came here to win it but this how it has ended and I think the boys; they did what they can do,” Prince Owusu said.

“We need more to do to get them back on track again because we came in and our first game we lost, the second game we lost as well and you know Kotoko [fans] will not take that and then we came in the third game and we lost as well.

“We need to do a lot with them. How we played made us lose the game but we are going to make sure we come back to get the boys on track again.

“It’s not just about the tournament itself but it’s what we are doing to get the boys ready for the African Cup [CAF Champions League] and the league as well. So all these ones are stages [and] it’s a wakeup call for us” He added.

Asante Kotoko, who won last season’s FA Cup, will now turn attention to the Champion-of-Champions against league winners, Gold Stars at the Duns Park at the Duns Park on Sunday, August 31.

The record Ghana Premier League holders will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup as they are paired against Kwarea United of Nigeria in the preliminary round.
