Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have sealed the return of experienced right-back Ashraf Mandela, who has signed a three-year contract with the club.
The 28-year-old was officially unveiled on Wednesday evening after completing a move from Rwanda Premier League side Police FC.
This marks Mandela’s third stint at the Kitende-based side. He was first promoted from St. Mary’s Kitende to the senior team in 2015, before moving on to SC Villa and URA FC.
His second spell came between 2022 and 2024, during which he played a pivotal role in guiding the Venoms to two Uganda Premier League titles, the Uganda Cup triumph, and their historic CAF Champions League group stage qualification.
“Vipers Sports Club are delighted to confirm the return of experienced right-back Ashraf Mandela, who has penned a three-year contract with the Venoms,” the club announced via its social platforms.
Mandela’s comeback strengthens a squad already boosted by several arrivals this transfer window, including Robin Kane Hney, Mark Yallah, Taddeo Lwanga, Odili Chukwuma, Kevin Dasylva Bady, and Enock Ssebagala.
With his wealth of experience, Mandela will now compete for a starting role alongside fellow right-backs Nicholas Wadada and Grant Matsiko, giving head coach Nikola Kavazovic more options as Vipers prepare for a demanding campaign both domestically and on the continent.
