Atlético Madrid has reportedly begun talks with Atalanta for the transfer of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman, whose strained relationship with the Italian club is pushing him toward an exit.
The move comes amid a strained relationship between Lookman and the Italian club, Atalanta, which has reportedly led the player to seek an exit from the Bergamo-based side.
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Atlético’s interest is serious, with the club having initiated direct contact with both Lookman’s representatives and Atalanta.
However, a deal is far from complete as the Spanish side has yet to meet Atalanta’s hefty asking price, reportedly in the region of €50 million.
Atalanta’s desire to see Lookman move outside of Italy is clear. They recently frustrated a bid from local rivals Inter Milan for the Super Eagles forward. Meanwhile, Lookman’s agents are exploring other options.
With the Inter deal now off the table, they have reportedly been in contact with several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City.
Despite reports of a potential return to England, Lookman’s primary preference was to join Inter, and his current situation with Atalanta remains tense.
