Atlético Madrid agree deal to secure Ademola Lookman

Spanish LaLiga side Atlético Madrid has agreed to a deal to sign Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Italian Serie A club Atalanta before the January transfer window closes.

According to Sky Sport reporter Gianluca Di Marzio, Lookman—who has been linked with a move away from Bergamo since the start of the month—has finally agreed to finalize a departure from the Italian side.

The deal has become a dramatic tug-of-war between the Spanish outfit and Turkish giants Fenerbahçe. While reports surfaced earlier this week suggesting Fenerbahçe had reached a verbal agreement on a €40 million package, negotiations reportedly hit a snag regarding payment terms for the Nigeria star.

Taking advantage of the situation, Atlético has reportedly agreed to pay €35m plus €5m in bonuses. While the Spanish club has offered Lookman only half of the net salary proposed by Fenerbahçe, the lure of La Liga appears to have swayed the player.

Lookman has become the primary target for Diego Simeone, who is eager to bolster his attacking options for the second half of the season following the Nigerian’s stellar performance at the recently concluded AFCON 2025.
