Aubameyang sparks Marseille comeback as late Morillo strike downs Strasbourg

Marseille’s veteran Gabonese forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played a pivotal role in his side’s 2-1 comeback win away at Strasbourg, with the Gabonese striker reminding everyone of his enduring instinct in front of goal.

Strasbourg had drawn first blood early in the second half when Abdoul Ouattara fired the hosts ahead in the 49th minute. The setback prompted Roberto De Zerbi to call on his attacking reinforcements, with Aubameyang introduced alongside Mason Greenwood and Emerson in a bold triple change.

The decision paid off. Aubameyang brought Marseille level in the 78th minute, after receiving Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s ball inside the box and finishing for 1-1. Aubameyang nearly saw Greenwood give OM the lead minutes later, only for the Englishman’s effort to miss.

In stoppage time, Marseille’s pressure finally told. Amir Morillo was on hand to lash home a rebound with a decisive finish (90+1), sealing all three points for the visitors.

The late winner capped an evening where Aubameyang’s influence changed the game’s complexion, showing his value as a goalscorer. The result lifts Marseille to the top of Ligue 1 with 12 points, while Strasbourg are fifth with the same tally.
