Tanzania-based players Khalid Aucho of Young Africans (Yanga SC) and Simba SC striker Steven Mukwala have been nominated for the 2024/2025 Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) Awards in the category of Best Foreign Based Player.

The list of nominees also includes Ugandan internationals Bevis Mugabi of Anorthosis Famagusta (Cyprus), Elio Capradossi of SC Cittadella (Italy), and Rogers Mato of FK Vardar in Skopje (North Macedonia).

“Their nomination follows a season of standout performances in Tanzania’s top-flight league, putting them in contention for recognition among Uganda’s best football exports. The final decision will now rest with the fans, who will vote to determine the winner,” reads a statement from FUFA, as published by the Guardian.

Aucho joined Yanga on September 8, 2021, from Misr Lel Makkasa of Egypt, and has been a pivotal figure for the club, helping the side chase the Mainland Premier League title and remain on course to defend the CRDB Federation Cup, where they have reached the final.

Mukwala has continued to impress since arriving at Simba from Ghana’s Asante Kotoko. Last season, he scored 14 goals, finishing just behind Berekum Chelsea’s Stephen Amankonah, who netted 16.

So far this season, Mukwala has netted 11 goals in the Premier League, close behind teammate Leonel Ateba, who has scored 12 goals, while Jean Charles Ahoua leads the Msimbazi Red’s scoring charts with 15 goals.
