Awany, Bobosi shine with full-time displays as Ugandan stars impress abroad

Uganda Cranes duo Timothy Awany and Bobosi Byaruhanga delivered solid full-match performances over the weekend as several Ugandan footballers featured for their respective clubs across the globe.


In Israel, central defender Timothy Awany was rock-solid at the back, playing the full 90 minutes as Ashdod FC registered an emphatic 4-1 win over Hapoel.


Across the Atlantic in the United States, midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga also featured for the entire match and was booked in the 53rd minute as Oakland Roots secured a 2-0 victory against Orange County SC.


In the same league, Edward Kizza played 69 minutes for Indy Eleven in their 3-1 loss to Charleston, while Jayden Onen went the distance and received a yellow card in the 63rd minute as FC Naples narrowly lost 1-0 to One Knoxville. Steven Sserwadda came on in the 63rd minute for New York Red Bulls II and made an immediate impact as his cross was deflected by Schaefer into his own net for a consolation goal.


Ibrahim Kasule also featured in the same match, coming on in the 58th minute, although NYRB II lost 3-1 to Cincinnati II. In the Canadian Premier League, Allan Enyou had an impressive 87-minute shift as Vancouver drew 1-1 with Cavalry.


In Europe, Aziz Kayondo played the entire match for Liberec in the Czech Republic as they suffered a narrow 3-2 loss to Karvino, while Isaac Muleme was on the bench for Zizkov in their 4-2 win over Slavia Prague II. Kayondo Mahadi was in action in Romania for CSM Slatina as they drew 1-1 with Afumati, while in North Macedonia, midfielder Shafik Kagimu played a full match despite Brera Strumica’s 2-1 defeat to Tikves.


In Ethiopia, several Ugandans were involved: Fahad Bayo and Musa Ramathan played 90 minutes each as Welwalo Adigrat fell 3-1 to St George. Tom Ikara kept a clean sheet over 90 minutes as Sidama Bunna edged Ethiopia Bunna 1-0.


Brian Aheebwa also featured for 90 minutes in a goalless draw between Arba Menche and Endaselassie, with Alex Kitata playing the final 9 minutes for the latter. On the continental stage, Denis Onyango was an unused substitute as Mamelodi Sundowns drew 0-0 with Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League. In the CAF Confederation Cup, Steven Mukwala featured for Simba SC in their hard-fought 1-0 win over Stellenbosch.


Elsewhere: In South Africa, Jamal Salim was on the bench as Richards Bay beat Cape Town 1-0, while Ismail Watenga missed Golden Arrows' 1-1 draw at Gallants. In Egypt, Joseph Ochaya and Joackim Ojera both played as Arab Contractors drew 1-1 with Raya.


In Tunisia, Semakula Kenneth was introduced in the 84th minute as Club Africain fell 3-1 to Esperance. In Kenya, the Ugandan trio of Kaddu George, Denis Iguma, and Deogratious Ojok were all involved as Tusker FC defeated Nairobi City 1-0.


In China, Aisha Nantongo featured for Changchun Dazhong in their 2-1 loss to Wuhan Jiangda. In Rwanda, Hakim Kiwanuka started on the bench, while Denis Omedi and Taddeo Lwanga were absent from the matchday squad as APR FC drew 2-2 with Etincelles FC.


For Police FC, Ashraf Mandela started at right back, Eric Ssenjobe was on the bench, and Allan Kateregga missed out as they beat Gasozi United 2-0 away.
