Ayoub El Kaabi continues fine form with two goals in Olympiacos victory

Ayoub El Kaabi strengthened his hold as top scorer in the Greek Super League on Saturday with a brace in Olympiacos’ 3-0 victory at OFI Crete.

The Moroccan stretched his lead to four goals at the top of the scoring charts, bringing his total to 17 goals in 21 league appearances for the reigning Greek club champions. His total in all competitions is now 20 goals following Saturday’s result.

It was absolute dominance from the visitors against their island hosts, who provided little resistance. El Kaabi opened the scoring on the half hour mark with a powerful header from Francisco Ortega’s cross.

The damage was limited by OFI Crete to one goal by halftime but the visitors increased their intensity after halftime.

After creating more opportunities, the dam broke again in the 70th minute when El Kaabi rampaged through the Crete defense before going around goalkeeper Nikolaos Christogeorgos to double his tally.

The Moroccan made way in the 86th minute before Christos Mouzakitis finished the scoring in second half stoppage time from the penalty spot. The result moves the Piraeus club into first place for the time being, with AEK Athens able to reclaim top spot when they face Atromitos away on Sunday.
