Tanzania Mainland Premier League outfit Azam FC have come out to show support for their current head coach Rachid Taoussi after reports emerged that they had opened talks to replace him with Florent Ibenge.

On Monday, reports emerged in Tanzania that the Ice Cream Makers are contemplating making changes to their technical bench ahead of the new season with the Moroccan facing the axe and the club targeting to replace him with Al Hilal Omdurman coach Ibenge.

The club’s spokesperson, Hasheem Ibwe, has come out to dismiss the growing speculations and further affirming that the Chamazi-based side were fully committed to the current coach. He, however, remained categorical that changes to the technical bench will be evaluated at the end of the season.

“Coach Taoussi is doing a good job. While the second half of the season has had its challenges, he has achieved the goals given to him by management. We remain focused on finishing the season strongly, and discussions about the technical bench will happen once the season concludes,” Ibwe stated as quoted by the Guardian.

“The club leadership will assess his overall contribution - including the team’s final league position, his tactical philosophy, and player development - before making any decisions. As it stands, we are confident in his abilities.”

Azam are currently third in the 16-team league table with 57 points - 16 behind leaders and reigning champions Young Africans (Yanga) and 15 behind second-placed Simba SC.
