Kenya national team head coach Benni McCarthy believes South Africa national team Bafana Bafana under coach Hugo Broos is on the right path and the Belgian should be given more time to build the team.
According to McCarthy, who is the all-time goalscorer for Bafana, the national team has shown great strides since the Belgian took charge.
“I think South Africa is slowly but surely getting on the right path because they gave Hugo Broos time to build the squad,” he told Sporty TV as quoted by FARPost. “You can see now that there is that continuity and consistency within the national team. So slowly but surely, they started to climb the ladder again because they had good preparations.
“They had a coach who has been there for more than three years now. He was able to implement his philosophy to the team, and I think South Africa is a little bit stable.”
However, he took issues with SAFA for not being good planners: “They are not there yet because I still think within the federation that’s the biggest problem still lying. When you are forever shifting where the team camps, there is no base for the team to come and camp on.
“That’s where Morocco has succeeded. Egypt has succeeded. You see, the North African countries take a leaf out of what they are doing in Europe. Every team has a base where you come in. So I think that’s where we had to lay our foundations.”
