South Africa’s Bafana Bafana defender Samukele Kabini has reacted to his first start for Norwegian top-flight league side Molde FK on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
The former TS Galaxy FC left-back got the nod in Molde FK’s starting line-up as they edged Træff 13-12 on post-match penalties in the Norwegian Cup contest. The young defender put in an assured performance at left-back and gave his reaction after the match.
“I am happy to start the game today. I felt so good. We could have done better, not to go to extra time, and created more chances to score. We didn’t create so many chances so that we could score goals. That is what we need going forward,” he told Molde FK media.
The versatile defender has mostly played left-back and centre-back in South Africa’s top-flight league. He made history as Molde FK’s first-ever South African player.
The defender has since said he sees Molde as the perfect place to take the next step in his career. Kabini signed a three-year contract with the Norwegian side last month.
The Norwegian Cup game had ended 1-1 after 90 minutes and went into extra time, which yielded nothing. This paved the way for penalties.
Kabini’s team seemed on course for a straightforward qualification to the third round of the Norwegian Cup when Granaas scored in the 83rd minute. However, the hosts levelled matters through Lewis eight minutes into extra time to send the match into the penalties.
