Bafana star Percy Tau back, Abdelkader MOTM as Qatar SC win against Bounedjah’s Al Shamal

South African attacker Percy Tau was restored to the starting line for Qatar SC as they beat Al Shamal 2-1 in a league contest on Thursday afternoon. Atta Jaber, with an assist from on loan Al Ahly forward Ahmed Abdelkader, scored on the stroke of half-time.

Abdelkader, who is enjoying an excellent loan spell with the club, confirmed victory for Qatar SC with a penalty kick deep into stoppage time. The 25-year-old Egyptian attacker now has 6 goals and 1 assist in 13 matches.

Visitors Shamal had played for some 52 minutes with 10 men after goalkeeper Babacar Seck was red-carded in the 38th minute, thereby giving hosts Qatar SC the numerical advantage.

Before Abdelkader’s winner close to full time, Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah had previously equalized the match with a penalty kick of his own for Shamal in the 82nd minute. Bounedjah is the top scorer in the Qatar Stars League with 14 goals, also contributing an impressive 7 assists for the striker.

The result saw Tau’s club jump three steps up into eighth place in the standings, three points behind the fifth-placed Al Shamal.

Tau was nowhere in sight for Qatar SC’s playing squad as they beat hosts Al Sadd 1-0 last Thursday evening in a league match. The new signing from Al Ahly had debuted for Qatar two weeks ago in the 5-1 loss to Al-Nasr in the Qatari-Emirati Super Cup final.
